Make Things Whole

Our lives are liberated when we forgive ourselves and others. This means that we make things whole. The word "forgive" is said to come from ancient Egypt where a bill of sale was created on papyrus when a slave was sold.

The slave held half and the owner held the other half. When the slave was freed, the withheld part of the bill of sale was returned, and the two parts then recreated a single whole papyrus. When we hold a grudge, maintain even unconscious anger or ill feelings, we have severed the wholeness that is the deepest truth of life.

We have certainly severed the wholeness of the relationships that are affected. At the deepest level, an unforgiven person knows the truth. If you wish to remedy such a situation where you cannot see the person, or perhaps they have died, here is a practice you might use:
